PCI Announces Next Generation XML Workflow Product

Washington, D.C. - Publishing Connections Inc. (PCI) today announced the release of its next generation XML conversion and extraction system,Scriba™. Building on the success of its first generation XML tool iCPS, PCI has created a powerful, integrated solution for companies looking to unlock their content from proprietary formats and package the data to be reusable and searchable on the web.

The tool will help increase customer revenues through assembly of content from a single source andfacilitating distribution to various marketing channels such as the web, cell phones, aggregators and other users. The  current applications supported are  Adobe® InDesign® CS2 and InCopy® CS2, Adobe’s award-winning page design and editorial software. Integration with Adobe InDesign Server™ will be available as part of a future Scriba 2.0 release.

"Publishers with sophisticated production environments depend on Adobe InDesign and In Copy to deliver strong performance and reliability," said Will Eisley, group product manager of Illustration and Layout Products at Adobe. "We are delighted with the additional XML capability that Scriba provides InDesign and InCopy users who  have been awaiting these features and are starting to use Scriba in their XML workflow environments."

Scriba's engine is a powerful, rules-based processing application that performs complex content conversions. It also provides sophisticated integration between other systems such as DAM, CMS or Editorial Workflow applications. Scriba is built on a modular architecture that allows users to choose the specific extraction tools they require.

Over the coming months PCI plans to release ScribaPDF™, a module for  extracting content from Adobe Portable Document Format files

"We have been keenly awaiting the delivery of Scriba not only for the conversion of our Adobe CS based publications but also to automatically integrate with our DAM and CMS systems," said Rick Weigand, Senior Director of Information Technology at CMP Media. "In a time of limited resources this level of automation is a great benefit for our entire production process. We are currently deciding on the first publication to use the system," Weigand said.

PCI is a pioneer in XML extraction and conversion technology. A wide variety of publishers use the earlier product, iCPS, to facilitate complex XML workflows and generate additional revenue from existing content. Building on this experience and success, PCI is now bringing a more powerful technology to new markets including health care, insurance, life sciences, financial publishing and direct marketing.
