iCPS

iCPS is a cross-platform application that allows automatic or manual extraction of content from QuarkXPress or QuarkCopyDesk with translation to XML and other formats.

XML documents represent a universally recognized format that is easily re-purposed for syndication, content management and digital asset archiving. By facilitating media-independent publishing, iCPS makes it fast and simple to publish content to multiple media sources. The flexibility of iCPS allows users to customize an XML document to match specific content requirements. iCPS is capable of handling the different tagging needs of multiple publishing groups within an organization and can be easily integrated into any production workflow and content management or digital asset management systems.

Features & Benefits

Interactive Tagging

iCPS allows the user to create multiple XML documents from a QuarkXPress layout and to determine which text and picture boxes are associated with each document. Tagged information can be saved in templates or libraries to significantly reduce the tagging process in the future.

Automatic Tagging

Boxes can be automatically tagged in a document. This feature allows the conversion of hundreds of documents with little or no effort. iCPS can also create multiple XML documents from one QuarkXPress document.

Metadata

Metadata from different sources (external files, QPS headers, direct input within iCPS) can be incorporated in the final output.

Batch Conversion

iCPS can save time by converting multiple documents into XML, or other output formats, in a batch mode. Conversion can take place on a user-defined timed interval.

Repository Integration

iCPS will prepare all assets (QuarkXPress Layout, fonts, images, PDF, XML files, metadata) for import into a digital asset management system or content management system.

Various Output Formats

iCPS can be configured to generate any type or number of output formats (XML, HTML, custom formats, other). It is easily reconfigured for new formats as standards evolve.

Workflow

iCPS allows users to move QuarkXPress layouts with their corresponding images into the batch conversion process.

Style Sheets

iCPS allows simplified style sheet mapping. Paragraph style sheets are used to identify article components and XML tagging needs. Character style sheets can also be used to replace text with hyperlinks in the output file.

Search & Replace

A powerful search and replace function using regular expressions can be used to make final modifications in the output file.

Splitting & Merging

iCPS recognizes multi-component text boxes and splits them accordingly. Related components can be merged to preserve relationships between them in the resulting XML.

Character Mapping

All fonts can be mapped to unique character replacements.

Document Status

iCPS allows the user to see which elements of the document have been tagged versus the ones that are not. This function helps to validate the tagging before conversion.

Image / IPTC Information

iCPS can extract image information (file name, image path, format, position, size, etc.) and IPTC header data.

iCPS will copy picture files within a QuarkXPress document for input into a digital asset management system or content management system.

Multiple Tagging Sets

Documents from multiple publications can be converted by iCPS to one or more output formats.

PDF / EPS Creation

During conversion, iCPS can launch Acrobat Distiller for automatic PDF generation of a QuarkXPress layout. iCPS can also automatically generate an EPS file for each page of the document during conversion.

Component Grouping

iCPS can group components together so the user can easily see the relationships in the XML output. For example, each picture can be grouped with its corresponding credit and caption.

QPS Specific Features

Status Watcher - iCPS can automatically extract QuarkCopyDesk articles out of QPS based on the status of the article.

QPS Headers - Information from QPS header files is extracted by iCPS and included in the XML output as metadata.

QPS Inline Notes - Inline Notes can be used to incorporate additional content in the final output. For example, inserting embedded links or URL references into the text.
